Il punto dello straniero Dear friends and dear friends of the blog + DISCREET that there is ... as you may know all our Captain ... PERSON WHO HAS THE MODERATE par excellence ... now a month has left the warm Bologna x + the "foggy" Southampton ...
but not forgotten their roots and then send us reports of his adventures across the Channel ...
As a joke I have decided to publish on the blog, so that everyone can enjoy!
But 'nuff said:
DAY 1, 09/17/2007
9 am, I come Building at 59 (electronic and computer science). As agreed at the reception to ask Geoff Merrett, it should be like my tutor. Presentation, I feel funny, in any case it is polite and helpful (at least for now). Following registration process (the usual bureaucracy) as a "staff member", after which I should have ID cards and e-mail the university. ... I look forward to!
After that we wait for the boss, that Bashir, who is at a meeting. The wait is in vain because, I tell my colleagues in the room 4237, Bashir is a very busy person. Then read on IEEE 802.15.4 Users Guide, merely annoying direi.
Day 2, 09/18/2007
First day of solitude, because the departure of Berti Senjora. However, I come back at 9 in the faculty. I continue the grueling reading the manual in hopes of meeting the infamous Bashir, but Geoff shatters my hopes by saying that today in Manchester. ... Nothing to do.
dull day, mark the "sad moment": I go to eat in the canteen alone. ... Argh!
Note: The long black English is bad ... piss. Nay excuse the vulgarity, say it is definitely a diuretic!
conclude by spending the day with Waitrose to buy laundry detergent and dinner with Matthew ... finally talk.
DAY 3, 09/19/2007
Sveglia come solito: ore 7.45.
DAY 4, 09/20/2007
Ok, perfetto! (Merda chissà che bordello!)
So I have to understand the differences between the MAC layer of 802.15.4 standard and the one implemented by Chipcon which, according to Alex, it seems not to be too efficient. (There I understood quite a dick, I hope someone aiutiiiii ....). Pending
of the program to use and for which I do not have a license, cazzeggiano all day. At home, however, I expect a hellish task: the washing machine ....
NB. Do not ever describe my evenings because I do not do anything. While waiting to catch someone out. ... I dedicate it to communicate via PC with Bo. The roommate, very good boy, too ... never leaves home and is always in front of the PC. ... Casserole dish!
DAY 5, 09/21/2007
Grande pranzo luculiano insieme a tutti i capoccia del Eletronic System Design Group, in un pub vicino all’Uni. Per la precisione ho mangiato Triple Coumberland Sausage with egg and chips, ovvero tre salsicciotti con uovo fritto e patatine…. Non vi dico che cassa al pomeriggio!
Sera: pint of spitfire all’Highfield Pub, a guardare Fra – Irl di rugby….non entusiasmante ma meglio di niente.
DAY 6, 09/22/2007, SAT
Sveglia alle 11, brunch con pane-marmellata-corn flakes-cioccolata in tazza-succo d’arancia. Giro in centro con annesso shopping e spesa all’ASDA: rischio la vita con una pizza surgelata, l’etichetta dice “stonebaked pizza with tomato and cheese”.
DAY 7, 09/23/2007, SUN
Ottimo risultato direi!
DAY 9, 09/25/2007
Boh!
clamor: see streaming over the web "and Sabrina Orlandi Civolani" that make the Final BO-BS, I feel at home! About 22 hours
: Matthew arrives, laden with groceries from Italy. We hope to organize something at the weekend.
DAY 10, 09/26/2007
This morning I woke up at 8:45, too late! But last night I was in pieces, then no problem. Two big news
welcome me in Uni. Shortly after my arrival comes Bashir, the Supervisor, that is the boss of bosses. Apparently soon should address the issue of reimbursement of expenses ... but for now ask me if I have enough money to live. The sore point is that in a few days we will make a meeting with Geoff, Alex, and indeed Bashir in cui IO dovrò spiegare quel che ho capito del mio progetto, insomma se mi è chiaro quel che dovrò fare….arrrgggghhhh!
DAY 11, 09/27/2007
DAY 12, 09/28/2007
Friday, Venerdì, finally. I look forward to that Saturday to make me a mega-Gubbio.
However, like every Friday lunch at the Gate pub with the boys in the lab. This time I took a chicken salad, nothing special. In the afternoon they finally reach the board, that the Schedules program, which will be the subject of my attention over the coming months ... but I do not want to start now. Read on, Monday will be seen!
cot in the evening, as the retired! Other than Chalet / Rough / Matis! By the way, I received an SMS from smiley staff for the opening of the Chalet. ... That bitterness!
DAY 13, 09/29/2007
Saturday, Saturday. Wake up at 11.40, what a show. Breakfast, brunch, with everything, so it's late and not after lunch. Fantasy and entertainment public relations with Bologna. 14.30, go downtown. Currency Euro Pounds Sterling to pay the rent, spending one hour with ASD in a row at the cash ipercoop which even in its heyday.
20 Hours: first outing with Matthew, the roommate. Meeting with some of his friends in a place not well defined, which will be then be the building where they work. After brief discussion it was decided to go all'Highfield Pub, because we also magna. We
6, take place at the table and go to the counter to order (burger + cheese and bacon, and "one pint of Greene King).
Reflection: the guys seem nice, but in a pub with 100 people the only table where I sit and never if I was a pussy (note capital F) is ours. A part of me that get up in the media of course (modesto!). And I am going to list the reasons that have given me such a thought. As we said
6:
- A Chinese Ju, or so I seem to have understood, PhD in physics, which looks like one of those performers / contorsionistida circus
- four Italians, I, Matt, Julian (or Corrado, boh?) of a 30 year-old suit in Udine PhD in physics, Ernesto na ... a bit ... you completed that I can not do it himself PhD in physics;
Ma per sperare in qualche rappresentante del Gentilsesso, oddio gentile mica tanto, devo inventarmi qualcosaltro….Matteo Amico Di Casari….where are you!?!?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DAY 18, San Petronio in Bologna 10/04/2007
sti ... dicks here: there are no holidays. The day however, I propose a meeting with a Greek, from Athens Evans. We have lunch together, finally to embrace a Latino with two really nice grin ... and, like all Greeks, never stops talking! A big fan of basketball, and football fan dell'Olimpiakos, Virtus and Fortitudo even know ... Ale! Sin is a fan of Juve ... but why?
DAY 19, 10/05/2007
called Matthew's friend Cas. We settle for a drink at her house, at 19 Milton Road 47. Unfortunately I miss the bus then I have to walk 20 minutes to get downtown ... but oh well! Aperitif based on two pints of Draught pay me back the walk. New house, really nice, we live in four: Matthew, two Venetians and a Pole. Roommates from gutting ... at the rate of beer and guns. For me, only beer, cheers mate!
I get home, this time by bus, and I enjoy dinner, Italian Style, a costly expense to Waitrose gave me: Parma ham and pecorino Toscano ... what a show!
DAY 20, 10/06/2007, SAT
As usual alarm at 11.30 am and brunch ritual!
evening at the Crown Inn Pub, with Matthew (roommate) and his colleagues Phd. I enjoy a healthy burger + chips and to avert the danger "dry throat" I throw up a pint of Pride Lodon: here we go with the beer-shot sicuro, ottima anche questa!
DAY 21, 10/07/2007, SUN
Pomeriggio in branda.
DAY 23, 10/09/2007
Mi reco all’ Accomodation Office, mi fanno una foto e mi consegnano la ID Card… sono ufficialmente un Visitor : d’ora in poi posso rimanere in Uni fino 11 pm, as the card that I can open all doors (if they are technological SOCCIA sti English!). DAY 24
10/10/2007
In consequence of the fact that they are officially a Visitor:
- I come to the Finance Research Office summoned the kind where Tasha explains to me that I have to open a bank account in England or I can not receive reimbursement from ' universities;
So:
- I go to the bank (HSBC), but the bank requires written letter stating that my home university in the UK otherwise I can not open the account;
- Back to the Finance Office to apply for this letter, but the kind Tasha sends me into another office where the rude Sam tells me that you can not do anything and I can not help but go by the secretary on my floor (the fourth);
- I go up to the fourth floor, knocked on the door of the secretary, but says she does not unaware Lucyna has the skills to write this letter and I have to speak directly with the supervisor, who of course says as Lucyna is incredibly busy, that is too busy. Therefore
:
- Send an email to Bashir (the Supervisor) by exposing the problem. After 3 minutes Bashir arrives with a signed letter attesting to the UK and Italian ... my residence. It took a lot!
DAY 26, 10/12/2007
Meeting with Supervisor. Subject: what I've done so far and What will I do in the coming weeks. At the end of the Supervisor, being always incredibly busy, so there is talk to the two PhDs that more or less follow me in the thesis (Geoff and Alex).
For now I'm changing some stuff in C, but does not work much. Then I'll have to deal with topics that I never treated (multi-hop networks), but interesting stuff that I have not experienced, and will help in some way. In any case, the two seem quite happy.
To celebrate, like every Friday, all Balotta to eat, but this time instead of the usual pub you go ... to the Chinese Restaurant.
Siamo io, Matteo, i due veneziani and another type. Finite spaghetti because the situation is complicated by dint of "Bea Bea" (interlayer Venetian), "Cheers mate" (interlayer English) and "go to the bathroom then I take a cane," the minds (the god of the trains but never smoke sated) of the residents of Milton Road will tarnish. After an hour and a frozen pizza, two of them are alcohol-Business (Feast of the trend for young southamptoniani) and others (including myself) welcome a newcomer that Kes (or Ches?), English color, friend of Matthew. The evening continues as it had started and at midnight I'm going back home (half an hour on foot because there are no more buses!). First
In ogni caso compagnia divertente.
DAY 27 and 28, 10/12-13/2007, SAT and SUN
Spettacolo!
DAY 29, 10/14/2007
Arriva la notiziona, Geoff mi dice: “Friday, Eleven o’clock, ten minutes presentation with Bashir”.
Rispondo con grande self-control "That's fine .... But I think "Sticazzi."
DAY 31, 10/16/2007
get home and find a letter addressed to Mr. Luca Berti SOCCIA ... that's cool, it's me! And 'the beloved bank informs me that I have opened the account ... who knows maybe I will pay sooner or later. But beware of the ATM ... nay the debit card to stay in Inglese.
DAY 32, 10/17/2007
New entry in knowledge: Dirk from South Africa ... is to lunch with me, and Evans, that we're creatures of habit.
Saturday there will be England vs. South Africa, the final of the Rugby World Cup. Here all the pubs are full of English flags .... Dirk obviously hopes to enjoy as a hedgehog.
